TWO former Metro Mayors were yesterday made honorary aldermen of the borough.
Former Cllrs Sam Little (Tyldesley) and Ron McAllister (Hindley Green) were honoured by ex-colleagues for their years of distinguished public service.
Sam became Wigan's 25th Mayor, crowning more than 40 years as a councillor in Tyldesley and Hindsford Ward on Wigan Council.
Ron was a former Hindley Council member before reorganisation in 1974 and was first citizen in 1990.
Both also chaired committees and took on school governorships among other official duties.
They received a framed scrolls embossed with the council's seal.
They join eight other surviving honorary aldermen: Jack Smith (1991), Maurice Lea (1994), Marian Milligan, Lawrence Birtles and Bernard Holt (1996), Tom Jones (1997) and Arthur Wright and Ken Pye (1998).
