BLACKPOOL'S biggest ever open-air arts and musical festival takes place in Stanley Park between noon and 4pm this Sunday (August 15).
The Grand Family Day Out harks back to the resort's heady entertainment heritage and 19th century roots. There's something for all the family with activities including a brass band, jazz musicians, flamenco performers, heritage trail, wildlife safari, living sculptures and face painting. All of Stanley Park's historical attractions, including the 1920s- designed Italian gardens, cafe terrace and bandstand as well as the more modern innovations such as the sports arena, will be used on the day for various activities. Blackpool's executive member for community services, Craig Matthews, said the event was a 'first' for Blackpool and the biggest outdoor arts and music festival the town has ever hosted.
"This festival of fun will transform Blackpool's treasured Stanley Park into a grand open air stage for music and arts performances, heritage events and sports," he said.
"The park will be filled with a variety of festive sights and sounds which will create a carnival atmosphere for families to enjoy."
All the entertainment is free and existing park activities, such as boating or crazy golf, are 50p with the proceeds going to Blackpool's Windmill Appeal.
On the day, Blackpool Zoo is also offering residents a special family entrance price of £12.
