LEIGH'S most Fame-ous son is coming home.
World class entertainer Georgie Fame, alias Clive Powell from old Cotton Street, St Peter's and Leigh Council schools and Hayes's Mill, returns to his home town on September 2.
Georgie, who topped the charts with 'Yeah Yeah', 'Getaway' and 'The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde', will top the bill at a centenary year charity concert organised by Leigh Miners Rangers ARLFC.
He will be backed by the Skeleton Crew at the Thursday night sell-out in Leigh MW Club - from where the cheers should be heard in nearby Cotton Street.
And among the audience will be rugby mates including the legendary Billy Boston, Frankie Parr and Colin Tyrer plus Leeds RLFC general manager Alf Davies - an Howe Bridger who was once Georgie's road manager.
"Georgie once played on the wing in a testimonial for Billy Boston," revealed Leigh MR organiser Alf Ridyard.
