Morecambe is set to honour another of its local heroes. A plaque will be unveiled on the stone jetty, where Mr Alec Bell drove the much loved blue road train for over five years.
Mr Bell, who died in March 1998, is also fondly remembered as the driver of the miniature train in Happy Mount Park, which he took on for two years after a career as a local bus driver, which included driving an open topped bus along Marine Road. The plaque will be unveiled on August 16, with Alec's Brother and two of his daughters in attendance. Alec, a keen sportsman and a founder member of the local bowls and squash who tragically died while playing darts. His wife, Mrs Pat Bell, commented "He loved life, being outdoors and meeting all of the visitors."
