POLICE have a new weapon in the fight against rural crime - the force helicopter. The air support unit will be making a concerted effort to patrol the countryside.
Spokesman PC Martin Woods said the new drive was part of a concerted attempt to reassure the public while also catching thieves. He told the Citizen: "A series of posters are being mounted in prominent positions around the country to reassure the public that we are watching." He added, "They should also send a clear message to anyone thinking of committing crime that they are likely to be spotted."
Busy car parks are a particular temptation for thieves and PC Woods insists "We want the public of Lancashire and visitors to enjoy the county's beauty spots without the worry of having their vehicles and possessions stolen." But he warned motorists to "Take appropriate safety precautions. They should never leave valuables inside the car and should always lock them securely."
