RADCLIFFE biggest store is about to get a whole lot bigger.
Work is being carried out on a £4 million development at the town's Asda superstore.
The 10,000sq ft extension is expected to be completed by November and will include a specialist Chinese food section, fresh fish, a new music and video section, a new customer services desk, and two additional checkouts.
Customer services manager Mrs Joan Alcroft said: "The decision to extend came about through customer requests for a George clothing section."
It is anticipated that about 20 new jobs will be created in the process, with more likely as customer numbers grow.
Mrs Alcroft says that the store will not be affected by the work and it will be business as usual, although the in-store pharmacy did have to close last Sunday, August 8.
The superstore opened in March 1996 with 320 jobs and was regarded as a huge economic boost for Radcliffe.
Asda's planning spokesman Andrea Barlow said: "As far as we are concerned, this is a town centre in which we have confidence."
