POLICE investigating the murder of a woman whose body was found in a field near Rainford five years ago, have made a re-newed appeal for information.
Julie Finley's body was found by a cyclist on the afternoon of Saturday, August 6, 1994, in a field off the Rainford by-pass. She had last been seen alive at about 11.15pm the previous evening in Pembroke Place, Liverpool.
Items of clothing believed to have belonged to Julie were later spotted on waste land at the junction of Low Hill and Prescot Street in Liverpool, but most had been removed before police arrived.
Police are particularly interested in a white van seen in a lay-by on the Rainford by-pass near to where the body was found. They are keen to speak to the occupants - possibly a courting couple - and emphasise that the matter will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
Detectives would also like to talk to a woman calling herself Tina, who was on honeymoon at the time of the murder, but later contacted detectives saying that Julie had told her she was going to meet a taxi driver from Prescot on the evening of her death.
DCI Francis Youell, said: "I am convinced this woman may hold vital clues and I would appreciate her contacting me again. I can assure her that any help she offers will be treated in confidence."
Anyone who can help the police can contact them on 0151 777 4514, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
