BURNLEY match-winner Lenny Johnrose is hoping his goal-scoring performance will earn him a run in the Clarets side.
Johnrose's first-half header added to Andy Payton's penalty gave Burnley the breathing space to secure a 2-1 win over Chesterfield and give them four points from their opening two games.
And after being left out of the side that started the campaign, the midfielder is now keen to hang onto his shirt.
"I was disappointed not to play last week. If you're not then there's a problem," said Johnrose.
"And I think a few of the lads will be disappointed not to play this week but that's just the way it goes. It's not easy when you don't play, it's just one of those things when you've got a good squad of players.
"Personally, I've just got to try and make sure I play.
"People have said that last season people were playing knowing they would be playing the next week whether we won lost, or whatever and that shouldn't be the case. This year it's going to be different. If you're not doing it right you're going to be out of the side and everyone knows that." Manager Stan Ternent has utilised his squad system already, partly through choice, partly through necessity, and despite not scaling any great heights on Saturday the Clarets displayed a winning formula.
"The first win of the season is always important and it's good to get one early on after getting a good point away from home last week," Johnrose added.
"They are a difficult side to play against who will pick up a lot of points away from home so it was a good win.
"We tired a bit towards the end but I think that was understandable after Wednesday night and we dug in and got the points I thought we deserved.
"The fans would be a little bit doubtful after Wednesday but we were always confident of getting a result if we played well enough and fortunately we did.
"I think it's better than what we'd got last year at this stage of the season. We've just got to pick up as many wins as we can especially at home. We should be looking to make this place a fortress with the fans we've got. It's a good start, four points in two games."
