HUNDREDS of music fans from across East Lancashire packed into Accrington's Oakhill Park yesterday for the grand finale of Sounds '99.

And the sun shone as revellers made the most of the free festival in the park.

The event boasted the final concerts in the 10-day music festival which has entertained crowds with talented local bands and nationally acclaimed music heroes.

Much-loved Accrington mod-rock band The Itch took centre stage, while popular funk pop guitar group A-Jay And The Maya played their first hometown gig.

Also getting the crowd going were Pendle and Clitheroe folk band Celtic Cross, and funk rockers Depot 9.

Heavy metal act Myopia and popsters Alan is Bad led the way, and jungle and drum 'n' bass DJs rocked the Courtzone.

And younger festival-goers didn't miss out either as there were arts and crafts tents and face painting.
