THE supporters might have temporarily deserted Bolton, but it won't be long before they return if Colin Todd's side can reproduce this sort of form and result.
A bitterly disappointing attendance of 13,019 - 5,000 below last season's Reebok average - was hardly an encouraging way to open the new home campaign.
Not that the players seemed unduly affected by gaps in the seating, a penalty from Dean Holdsworth settling any nerves as early as the 11th minute. Holdsworth and the impressive Claus Jansen almost added more before a second penalty brought Rangers level, Gavin Peacock converting after Mike Whitlow had fouled Chris Kiwomya.
Bolton's winner came midway through the second half with Per Frandsen and Jansen combining to play in Eidur Gudjohnsen. The Icelandic striker's first attempt was blocked but he followed up to sidefoot beyond the despiring Ludek Miklosko.
