AN ANIMAL sanctuary which is battling to secure its future has taken in six new animals.
The latest arrival at the Only Foals And Horses Sanctuary, Oswaldtwistle, is a black stallion who has been named Lucky Eclipse because he was brought in shortly after last week's solar eclipse.
Lucky Eclipse is a 13.3 hands stallion who had been passed from pillar to post before being left with a woman in Oldham. His owners did not return and the woman passed him on to the sanctuary.
A pony recently taken in from Rossendale is called Tom Thumb, and a 12-month-old foal called Jack was recently rescued from the Preston area.
The sanctuary at Redshell Stables also took in a mare and foal, Jenny and Little Brown Bertie, from the Walkden area. The volunteers are also looking after an inseparable pair of old ponies called Danny and Jonjo who have come from from Warrington.
Charity workers are fighting for the sanctuary's survival and need to raise £200,000 by the end of the year to make the animals' future safe.
They have already raised more than £20,000 and have been offered a low-interest loan for £100,000 by a Suffolk businessman.
The new animals can be adopted for as little as £10 per year, and the money goes towards their upkeep.
