BOXER Kevin Maree is in serious training for a new challenge, the New York Marathon.
Kevin, who boxes at bantamweight, decided to look for a new challenge when he broke a wrist in his last fight and was put out of boxing for a while.
He decided on running the marathon to raise money for Get Kids Going, a charity to help disabled children in sport.
Kevin, 21, who lives in Nelson, is senior fitness instructor at the Oaks Leisure Centre, Reedley.
He said: "I chose that charity because it ties in so well with my job and helps people who would not normally have the means to do it.''
His air fare has been provided by the Broughton Catholic Society who presented him with a cheque for £400 arranged through one of the leisure club members, Joan Bibby.
Kevin said: "It will be my first marathon but I do a lot of running as part of my training for boxing.''
Kevin is looking for sponsors and anyone who can help can contact him on 078 999 53543.
