SHEEPDOG trials raised more than £160 for the East Lancashire Hospice appeal for better day care facilities.

Farmer and dog trainer Vincent Fox organised the day-long trials for about 50 dogs and their owners on his farm at Withgill, Clitheroe, last month.

First prize went to Clarence Storey and his dog Sweep, of Delph, near Oldham; Alan Bradley and his dog Bob, of Garstang, won second prize; and Sheila Nain and her dog Jet, of Wales, won third prize.

Mr Fox, of New Lane Cottages, Withgill, handed over a cheque for £167 to Ribble Valley appeal chairman George Clarkson this week for the £1.3 million appeal to build an extension to the hospice at Park Lee, Blackburn.

Mr Clarkson was also given a cheque for £250 from Castle Cement, Clitheroe, from their charity fund.
