WORKERS at Blackburn's travel and information centre eclipsed other shops in the town in a competition organised to mark the day the moon shut out the rays of the sun.

Traders throughout the town centre were encouraged to create window displays based around the theme of the eclipse.

And the Railway Road travel and local information centre put the rest in the shade to win £250, plus a rose bowl from the Chamber of Trade. Second place was awarded to Hobkirk's Sewing Centre, in Darwen Street. Zodiac in Lord Square finished third.

Both the shopping centre and Blackburn with Darwen Council's regeneration department gave their support to the competition.
