BARNOLDWICK took on on Premier Division leaders Leyland - the only undefeated team in the league - last Saturday.
United though, did have a 25-minute spell at the beginning of the second period, when they should have converted at least one of several chances that they created.
These things, like conceding poor goals and not taking reasonably easy "one on one" chances, if not rectified, will make this first season at the top level in the West Lancs League a very long affair.
The game started with Leyland taking the initiative, having most of the possession and playing the better more controlled football.
No clearcut chances were created until the 23rd minute when a speculative shot from all of 30 yards appeared to take the Barlick keeper by surprise and nestled inside his left hand post.
Leyland kept the better shape and controlled without creating. The score remained 1-0 until half time.
Barlick began to play some very good football in the second period but without reward. United continued to control until a Leyland attacker was upended by goalkeeper Dewhurst and the visitors doubled their lead from the resultant spot kick.
The home side were now desperately chasing the game, and it was no surprise when they broke away to seal the points.
