THE Classic Annual Lancashire Road Club 12 hour time trial was run off with the usual impeccable organisation on Sunday with the riders having a mainly dry day, but with a nagging wind to contend with.
One of the favourites was Blackburn-based Jon Purdy of the promoting club, but although he started well he began to feel the effects of a cold at around 80 miles and reluctantly decided to call it a day.
From the 17 finishers, the best East Lancs rider was Peter Haigh of the Nelson Wheelers Club with a very creditable 236 miles, completed with first time rider Bob Jones of Accrington and the North Lancs Road Club very satisfied with his 201-mile ride. Overall winner with the excellent performance of 265 miles was Andrew Powell of the Kendal-based Kent Valley Road Club with team prize going to the Preston Wheelers.
