DAVE Ebbrell of Wilpshire and riding for the Blackburn and District CTC followed up his recent gold medal ride in the North West 10k Championship on the track with a determined performance on the road that gave him third place in the Clayton Velo Spring Classic on Sunday.
Held over 14 laps of a 3.8 mile circuit between Higher Hodder and Edisford Bridge, the event had attracted a full field of 60 entries and after a good deal of activity in the race, a breakaway of three riders gained a two minute lead over the big bunch.
At the finishing line it was Jimmy Wright of the Leyland-based Ribble Valley club first across the line followed by Matt Sewell of the Southport Cycling Club with Dave Ebbrell third.
Ebbrell also gained the highest number of points for the intermediate sprints and team-mate Shaun Pearson of Darwen, took a creditable ninth place from the 35 finishers.
