BLACKBURN Harriers won the team prize at the final Horwich Jubilee 4.2 mile road race last Wednesday with a blend of youth and experience.
Ben Fish was the first under 18, and Nick Samuel first under 20 and they combined with M45's Evan Cook and George Woodburn to defeat host club Horwich by six points.
Vanessa Peacock from Clayton Harriers was third lady, winning the L45 class and Chorley Harrier Jeannette Coleman was first L40. Husband and wife John and Janet Chaplin were second M40 and third L35. Mick Hill of Tipton was far too good for his opponents winning the race with a minute to spare in 19.52 just four seconds off Dave Lewis' course record.
In the series, Chris White of Rossendale Harriers was first junior by a whisker, but was comfortably the best placed runner from our local clubs. Peacock was the winning veteran lady with Jeanette Coleman fourth.
Al Hodson has completed the Isle of Man Marathon in 4hrs 52mins at the age of 72. Last year Al ran eight marathons. His next one is the Robin Hood at Nottingham on September 26 when he will be travelling to the venue with colleagues from Accrington RR.
