A REJUVENATED residents' group, brought back from the brink of closure, has appealed for help.
Horsfield Residents Association, Colne, was on the point of winding up last October due to lack of interest. Since then, an AGM has been held and a new committee voted in, changes that have given the group a new lease of life.
A varied programme of events, based at a community centre in Byron Road, has been drawn up to bring people in the Horsfield area of the town together and instill a sense of community spirit.
"The aim particularly is to get people who don't get out, people who are on their own and lonely, to come along and meet other people from the area and enjoy themselves and make new friends," explained association treasurer Elsie Dawson.
"It's not a profit-making organisation. Any money we make through fund-raising will go back into the community by holding Christmas parties and outings for all ages."
The main problem facing the group is a lack of funds and a shortage of equipment. It has been loaned a bingo machine and the group has bought an amplifier and microphone from its own funds, but a sound system, a TV and a video recorder are needed so the association can stage discos, dances and talks.
Among the events planned are a fun day on September 26, including a tug-of-war. Teams are invited to contact Elsie to enter their names.
The group is also staging a Christmas fair on November 28, a toddlers' Christmas party on December 16 and a Millennium party on New Year's Eve.
