PRESTON achieved a winning draw at West Cliff against Morecambe despite the weather and absence of their captain, and professional, Manoj Parekh.
Parekh had his big toe nail removed last week and was advised by doctors not to play.
The pro honour fell to Sam Ingleby, 19, playing his last game for the club before he returns to university.
Acting captain Antony Mann won the toss and elected to bat in a game reduced to 39 overs due to rain. Paul and Antony Mann put on 26 runs for the first wicket before the latter was caught and bowled by Farouk Patel for four runs.
The second wicket fell at 30 when Ingleby was dismissed in identical fashion for three.
With the score on 37, Paul Mann was caught by Stuart Errington off Peter Stephens for an excellent 28.
Following a middle-order collapse, the last pair of Roger Kaye and Iqbal Liley put Preston back into contention with a 42-run partnership before Kaye was caught for an aggressive 43.
Despite losing Mark Woodhead without a run on the board, Morecambe always made a determined effort to go for victory.
Tommy Clough and Prince added 45 for the third wicket before Clough was caught. Prince departed one run later, with the score on 66-4.
Morecambe came back into contention with a 43-run partnership for the fifth wicket but at 109-5, lost their next three wickets for only five runs, which ended their chase.
Iqbal Liley was the pick of the Preston bowling attack. He took 4-36 from 13 overs.
Final result: Preston 124 Morecambe 118-8.
