AS I parked my car on The Rock car park I witnessed the maturing trees on the island bed, fronting the entrance, having their branches removed and shredded.
I feel incensed by this destruction of nature merely to accommodate the fair.
These trees form a natural habitat for birds and bring a little of the countryside into our town, giving it character and making for a more pleasant environment. These ideals are in line with the stated objectives of Bury's Local Agenda 21 on land use, that is "to protect and enhance landscape quality".
I understand that when trees have to be removed for development reasons (is the September fair a development reason?) then replacement trees are required to be planted.
I therefore wish to know where these replacement trees are to be planted and be assured that they will be provided on the "three-for-one" basis.
