I WRITE to support The Rock traders in their efforts to prevent the bi-annual fair being sited on the adjacent car park and on The Rock itself.

To take away the use of a large car park to "increase footfall" belies belief. Where will all this extra "footfall" park their cars? Tesco!

A recreation ground has always been the site for a fair. At least there the public have a choice as to whether they attend or not. So why is this not the case in Bury? We have a perfectly good site at Clarence Park. The town centre - especially next to a health centre - is definitely not the place for a fair, .

I shall be denied my usual parking place and will be driven away from The Rock by the noise of the rides. I quite often take my lunch seated where these rides are going to be. How many other shoppers will just turn around and go elsewhere when confronted with a great big ferris wheel and roundabout where they usually park.

I am not surprised the traders are upset. This must be an infringement of their rights. Not only are they being denied customers, they will also be bombarded with noise, litter and large groups of high-spirited people. At lease I have a choice . . . whether to be there or not.

Bury Council have made a grave error. The town will lose its dignity and quite a few of its otherwise loyal customers.
