LEYLAND'S Wellfield High School pupils have earned full marks - and a £3,500 grant - by saving energy.
The youngsters scooped the maximum grant available from a partnership of British Gas and the Department of Transport, Environment and the Regions, in the SchoolEnergy project.
The scheme aims to improve energy efficiency in schools and cut their costs, with money being ploughed back into much-needed resources.
Fitting energy-saving lightbulbs, door and window seals, push taps and sensor lighting are just some of the ways in which the school has made savings.
Albany High School, in Chorley, also received an award of £1,400.
Collette Handley, of British Gas, said: "When the pupils and teachers return to school for the autumn term these savings will really begin to show and hopefully the schools will be warmer and cosier for everyone."
