ST ANNES beat Lancaster by eight wickets to go joint top of the Vaux Northern League with Darwen.

The home side lost their first wicket at five when Phil Dennison was lbw to Dave Callaghan for four. Seven runs later Paul Taylor departed for two.

Half the Lancaster team were dismissed when Mutucumarana was caught by Callaghan off Darlington for 40, and then lost their next two wickets on 100.

Lancaster captain David Jolleys was bowled by Darlington for six before Ian Whitehouse and Neil Jordan remained undefeated with 8 and 3 respectively as Lancaster's innings ended on 117-8 after 39 overs.

In reply, Adrian Darlington and Andy Kellett put on 24 before the latter was trapped lbw by Graham Barnes for seven.

Darlington and Callaghan added 26 runs for the second wicket before Raj Hans trapped the later lbw for 14. Then Darlington and Steve Twist featured in an unbroken third wicket partnership of 71 which won the match.

St Annes entertain the current league champions Netherfield at Vernon Road this Saturday (August 21).
