I FELT I must write in in the vain hope that it might help.

Our local pub is threatened with closure and demolition to be replaced by yet more houses - just what is needed in Hindley Green.

I know our local is not a fun pub and does not make as much profit, but then again as far as I know the brewery has not spent any money on the decor, structure and furnishings for at least 30 years.

The clientele is a bit older than average but then again there is never any trouble and one feels safe there. People know each other and talk to each other.

Now if the brewery spent a little doing up the pub, it would attract more people and might make more profit. I know a pub is really made from the people who go in it, but it needs to attract them to start with.

Then there's the bowling green, if the pub goes, how long before the green goes?

The Railway Hotel, known locally as The Rubber, is the last pub in Hindley Green with a green.

If that goes Hindley Green will be without a green the public can use.
