YOUNG racing cyclist Edmund Leary put in a promising ride in the National Junior road race championship at the weekend.
The Rainford teenager, in his first year at this level, finished in 43rd place out of 70 starters over the testing 73-mile course near Corby.
Edmund (17) was well up with the bunch until just beyond the 50-mile mark when a bout of leg cramp put paid to his chances.
Undeterred, the Chester RC/Lease Direct team member got back on his bike to finish the event.
