GANGS beat up revellers in three unprovoked attacks during the worst night of violence for months in Lancaster at the weekend.
All three beatings were perpetrated in the early hours of Saturday morning. Police are not linking the attacks.
Two of the assaults were on North Road. In one incident a gang suddenly jumped on a 27-year-old Lancaster man between 1.30am and 2.30am.
They repeatedly punched and kicked him about the head and body until their victim fell unconscious. The victim then stumbled home with a broken cheekbone and severe bruising.
The other attack on North Road again involved a gang. This time two men, a 42 and a 26 year old, were pounced on between 2am and 2.30am. The men had no idea how many of the gang were beating them. They were struck repeatedly about the face and body.
At about 2.15am another two men in their early twenties were walking along Common Garden Street. About four or five thugs shouted abuse at them before they attacked. Again they were kicked and punched about the face.
Police don't have descriptions of any members of the gangs but are appealing for witnesses and anyone who has any information.
Lancaster Police spokesman said: "These were unprovoked brutal attacks. The victims were simply making their way home after enjoying a night out when they were kicked and punched about the head and body by gangs of young men.
"If anyone saw these thugs, or can provide any information at all, we would urge them to contact us immediately on 63333."
