PRESTON'S left-back injury jinx looks set to be at an end, with new boy Adam Eaton preparing to be counted in for first team action.

The 19-year-old, who arrived at Deepdale over the summer from Everton, had a runout during Monday's reserve game against Oldham at Irongate.

The appearance in the 3-3 draw was his first since since he broke a toe during PNE's pre-season game against Chorley.

Preston manager David Moyes had a major headache before last Saturday's game, losing virtually every left back, only to be saved by Ryan Kidd, who only just scraped into the side that beat Stoke on Saturday.

Dominic Ludden could be out for another week but Rob Edwards, ruled out of last Saturday's game just 24 hours before the match took place, is making a comeback, giving Moyes a new problem - which player to select!

And Steve Basham could provide some more good news for David Moyes - he too appeared for the first time on Monday, playing the full 90 minutes.

He did pick up a shin knock during the match, but is also expected to be fit in time for Saturday's game, which, if he was to play, would be his league debut since signing a long-term contract at Deepdale.

It is hoped that Basham will pick up where he left off during his loan spell from Southampton. He had no problem knocking away the goals during PNE's ill-fated promotion push last season, and hopefully will do exactly the same this time.

If he does make the team sheet for Saturday's game, fans will be much more optimistic about making it three league wins out of three as they face Wycombe away.

Preston are the only team to have won both league games so far this season, while Wycombe are a among a huge cluster of teams behind them who have won one and lost one.

And looking down for the team's lofty perch at the top of the league, manager David Moyes declared: "The best is yet to come."

He said: "Saturday's game was a big improvement, but there is still more to come.

"This is a nice way to start the season but I know we can do better and that is what we will continue to work towards."
