HAYDOCK CC suffered at the hands of the weekend weather.

The first string were thwarted , despite the efforts of the ground staff and a break in the rain.

The umpires decided that no play would be possible and play was abandoned for the day.

The second team travelled to Norley Hall, and while they were able to play they were frustrated by the Norley Hall batsmen.

Batting first the Haydock batsmen were given a steady start as Chris Carlisle 19 and Shaun Lathom 20 took the shine off the new ball. Gary Ormrod was, however, Haydocks star man with the bat and more than justified his inclusion in the side with a remarkable batting display. Gary took advantage of some generous bowling as he lit up an otherwise dull afternoon to make 89.

Steve Plant continued his remarkable expansion of his batting potential as he and Gary Ormrod shared a very good partnership. Steve began to score freely as soon as he reached the wicket, scoring on both sides of the wicket he produced a fine innings finishing with 43 and putting on 74 in a partnership with Ormrod. Nick Tinsley showed why he is a natural inclusion he made a quickfire 36 as Haydock reached a mammoth 231-7.

Norley made a tentative reply and the Haydock bowlers had them under pressure right from the start. Paul Johnson bowled well his pace was just too much for the batsmen and he deserved more than his 1-24.

Paul Roberts was just as sharp he stuck to his task well and was good value for his 2-23. Nick Tinsley rounded off a good personal performance with 2-19 but despite two magnificent catches by Steve Bridge who had set aside his chairman's hat for the day Norley hung on and finished on 125-5.

The Sunday side played host to Leigh in the West Lancs Sunday League and featured in a high scoring game. Shaun Lathom blasted 52 to round off a good weekend while Dave Cross played a fine innings as he took the Leigh bowlers apart with a fine 72. Ian Brown 36 was suitably impressive as Haydock rattled up 231-7.

In reply Leigh batted well D Ashton hit a fine 47 while I Taylor looked good on 56 as Leigh reached 235-5 to take the points.

Haydock have also enjoyed success in the Midweek League. After an absence of a couple of years they had both League and Cup success.
