PRESTON North End girls under 14s side started the new season in style by winning the Morecambe five-a-side tournament at the weekend.
They played seven games against top North West opposition such as Bolton, Blackburn and Burnley without conceding a single goal in open play.
Thanks to an excellent goalkeeping performance from Lauren Kay and stout defensive work from Claire Edge, Stacey Shaw and Mel Angelsa, the opposition found it impossible to find the net.
At the other end, three girls finished the tournament with four goals each - Lauren Smith, Natasha Miller and Chez Rawcliffe.
In the final, PNE beat Burnley 2-1 on penalties after a goalless game.
PNE under 12s also did well, not losing a game until the semi-finals when they were beaten by Manchester City.
PNE did not submit an under 16s side, but several of their players represented Penwortham Girls High School who beat Bolton in the semis, then lost 3-2 to Stalybridge on penalties in the final.
Charlotte Walmsley was outstanding in the nets and all Penwortham's goals were scored by Alison Taberner and Leyna Tommoney.
