RUGBY LEAGUE in Leigh is on a major Millennium high.
The flag is flying proudly at Hilton Park, where Ian Millward's heroes go into the last two matches of the Northern Ford Premiership as league leaders.
And, at amateur level, Leigh MR and Leigh East are going great guns in the run-up to the new campaign.
On Saturday (3pm) at Twist Lane the Big Two are matched up for an epic showdown in the Champions Challenge - the first time they have met in the final.
East always had the upper hand in their semi-final 31-22 win against Rose Bridge with hooker Gary Fletcher again putting in a MoM performance.
The late dismissal of prop Dave Blinkhorn caused some defensive flutters as the Wigan side clawed their way back. But a try from Dave Kay soothed nerves to set up a derby delight.
Earlier came TDs from Darren Hall 2, Sam Horne and Fletcher.
Miners won 31-18 in a rugged encounter with Eccles, MoM centre Mark Sarsfield capping a great show with a try in the closing moments. Earlier came TDs from Mick Warburton, Alan Coleman, Sarsfield, Lee Stretch and Steve Flannery.
