VILLAGERS in Tottington have until Tuesday (August 24) to lodge their objections to the latest development - a plan to build 16 more homes.

Leading campaigners against the development, off Bury Road, are urging everyone in the village to write to members of the borough's planning control sub-committee with their objections.

Earlier this month more than 40 residents attended a meeting at The Lamb pub, near to the site earmarked for houses. It was the start of a bid to block the plans by property developers Longden North West.

Mr Steve Kimber, spokesman for the campaign group, said: "Since the meeting more than a 1,000 people have signed a petition.

"Residents who want to protest have only until Tuesday to get their objections in."

Protesters claim that the village cannot cope with the traffic from more houses. They also object to the extra pressure on existing facilities such as schools. They say they are determined to stop developers from swallowing the last few remaining pieces of open spaces left in the village.

Campaigners are inviting everyone in the village to their next meeting on Tuesday in The Lamb at 7.15pm.
