DAVE Watts is claiming a victory in his battle to win a fair deal for shoppers in the town.
The St Helens North MP had contacted Asda chief executive, Allan Leighton, following the revelation that customers at some of the company's stores were being given loyalty cards. He said that this effectively meant that shoppers in St Helens, who could not obtain the cards, were paying higher prices than other Asda customers.
Mr Leighton replied explaining that the company had been operating a pilot scheme for the last five years. However, he agreed that this practice was unfair to Asda's St Helens customers and promised that he would end this practice and instead reduce prices to all customers.
Dave Watts said: "I am delighted that Asda has taken action to reduce its prices to all its customers and that St Helens shoppers will now be receiving the same value for money as Asda shoppers elsewhere."
