SMOKING, drinking and drug-taking mums-to-be inflict suffering on their babies, said a Burnley child care expert.
Consultant paediatrician, Dr Ian Swann, called for a strong partnership between pregnant mothers and Burnley Health Trust - because lives were at stake. The latest baby death figures for Burnley General Hospital showed little change in 1993.
