BRIAN Kidd faced up to the increasing pressure caused by an alarmingly-poor start for Blackburn Rovers and vowed - I'm confident we'll come good.

Supporters are already getting restless after three games without a win in a disastrous start.

And Kidd, who could well add left back Steve Harkness to his squad this week, knows that, in football, everyone is judged on results.

"Without a doubt," he said.

"I know it's a tough challenge but I am not worried I am confident.

"We are getting players back and that's the good thing.

"But it was a really poor performance from the first whistle.

"We looked a nervous, frightened team. We had a chat after the game and we certainly have to turn it round.

"I don't know if it's the expectations but they are not going to go away.

"They are the demands of being here at Blackburn Rovers."

Despite taking just one point from the first nine, Kidd is happy with his reshaped squad - though Rovers are likely to step up their efforts to sign Harkness from Benfica this week.

They have not yet had talks with the player, even though there has been speculation about his pay demands.

But, as we revealed last week, things could soon start to move with Benfica expected to accept a £500,000 offer for the former Liverpool player.

Kidd's latest signing Egil Ostenstad made his Rovers debut against Barnsley on Saturday and it was a tough start for the ex-Southampton striker in the circumstances. "I thought it was difficult for him because we didn't give him enough decent service," said the manager.

"There was too much safety-first about our play. You have to play with a wee bit of risk. You have to take a chance. I wouldn't have thought we would get a performance like that with the lads we had out there.

"You can look for excuses but you expect more than that.

"We have got to do it ourselves and be strong enough.

"You have to keep digging away and stick to your principles and what you believe in."

Kidd used all three substitutes on Saturday, then found his team down to 10 men when Marlon Broomes damaged a hamstring.

That could keep the defender out for some time, though there is a fortnight's break after Saturday's game at Norwich.

Garry Flitcroft, however, had to be withdrawn at half time on Saturday feeling the effects of his long lay-off with knee problems. "He had been feeling it during the week but we took a gamble with him," said Kidd.

Damien Duff was ruled out on Saturday, because of a niggling knee injury.

Reports in yesterday's papers that Wolves were interested in Rovers striker Nathan Blake were new to Ewood.

Blake would probably be available if anyone came in with a serious offer but Wolves, also chasing Ade Akinbyi at Bristol City, are thought to be checking out Kevin Gallacher rather than his Ewood team-mate.

Meanwhile, Rovers appear to have scaled down their interest in Bradford's Robbie Blake after signing Ostenstad.

That is unlikely to change unless there are more departures.
