BURNLEY Community Football Club - comprising players with learning disabilities and special needs - are celebrating a trio of successes.
They won Group A, Group B and the Group A play-off final of the North West Regional Tournament, Blackpool.
This follows a successful period for the lads which included beating rivals Blackburn Rovers 4-1 when centre forward Craig Dilworth got all four goals in a match recorded and broadcast by Cable TV.
Their next match was in front of 12,000 fans at Bloomfield Road, at half time during the Blackpool v Clarets Nationwide Division Two match. CST Wanderers were beaten 2-0 - avenging in an earlier defeat at Turf Moor.
The low point probably came against Stoke Dolphins, when Burnley lost all matches in a five-game series.
But they bounced back against Blackpool Bears - winning three and drawing two of another five-match series.
Their first excursion to 11-a-side competition was a little disappointing when they went down to a 9-3 reverse against a Calderstones side who demonstrated greater all-round pace and ball-winning ability.
Anyone with learning disabilities and special needs who is interested in joining, should ring: 01282 439954 or 01282 718662.
The club trains at Barden on Sundays (noon-2pm), and Burnley Boys Club on Wednesday (6.45-8.45pm).
