THOUSANDS of school children were celebrating their GCSE results as examiners reported an "impressive" increase in the number and quality of grades achieved.
The GCSE, having completed its second year, was being hailed a success as results showed a 15 per cent rise in the number of youngsters gaining grades A to C compared to 1987.
