THIRTY youngsters are having their literacy skills stretched and enhanced during a two week summer literacy school.

Their programme of work at Queen's Park High School, Blackburn, is built around the theme of autobiography and also includes the use of our NIE Super Story Search literacy material.

Jean Wharton, one of three teachers responsible for the school project, said that one of the greatest pleasures of working with these pupils is being able to see their learning confidence and enjoyment blossom.

"They are especially enjoying their daily delivery of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph," she added. "Local stories are of particular interest to pupils and provide talking points throughout the day, while the NIE reading record rewards pupils and gives them a pride in their achievements."

A presentation of certificates for all participating pupils is planned for the last day of the scheme.
