TOPSY-TURVY Clitheroe, missing several key players, slumped to a disappointing defeat at league leaders Fleetwood last night.

A headed goal from substitute Keith Johnstone just 14 minutes from time settled this First North Western Trains League First division clash in favour of the home side.

Blues boss Steve Parry gave debuts to new recruits Andy Brown (midfield) and John Coyne (defence) and the visitors held their own in an even first half.

It was a tight affair after the break too with defences on top before a long throw was flicked on by Johnstone and the ball drifted into the far top corner.

Parry said: "It was a soft goal to concede and we paid for a lapse in concentration. We had done quite well up until that point, although it wasn't a game where many individuals shone.

"We were without three or four players but that isn't meant as an excuse, we were disappointed not to get a point."
