POLICE had to be called to remove a drunken man from the accident and emergency unit at Blackburn Royal Infirmary.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Ian Buxton refused to stop shouting and swearing when told to by police and was eventually arrested after a struggle.
Buxton, 39, of Ivinson Road, Darwen, was fined £100 with £40 costs after pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly.
Stephen Parker, defending, said Buxton agreed that his behaviour on the day had been totally unacceptable.
He had been to see a friend who was having difficulty with a relationship, returned from an errand and found she had slashed her wrists with a razor blade.
"He phoned for the ambulance and followed on to the hospital," said Mr Parker.
"He had drunk a couple of cans of beer and taken tablets for back pain and the two reacted.
He went to hospital in a distressed state and now deeply regrets his actions on that day."
