A BANNED driver has gone to jail for his seventh conviction for driving while disqualified.
Burnley magistrates had heard how Anthony John Westall, 38, was moving house and decided to buy a car and take his property himself because he had been let down.
Westall, of Nairne Street, Burnley, was sent to prison for four months, after the bench told him he had offended on probation and was a persistent offender. Westall admitted driving while disqualified, no insurance and no test certificate.
Nick Dearing, defending, said Westall had put himself in danger of losing his liberty. He had co-operated with police and entered a guilty plea.
He had been to prison before and that did not seem to deter him. Probation does not seem to deter him either.
Westall loved cars, doing them up and driving them. He loved them a lot more than paying regard to court orders. Prison held no fears for the defendant and he needed guidance and instruction on how to conduct himself.
Mr Dearing went on: "This man loves cars too much. If he was pointed in the right direction, he could turn himself round and find a legitimate and possibly rewarding career in the motor industry."
