FOOTIE-mad MP Nigel Evans is hoping to stuff the opposition - by taking up his position on the left wing.
The Fulwood Tory has gained a reputation as a wonder winger for the House of Commons Football Team - on both the left and the right.
And his squad, which consists of MPs from all political parties, is preparing for the first ever European championships for parliamentarians.
Mr Evans and his squad have been put on a strict fitness regime, which includes 30 minutes running four times a week, cycling for 75 minutes four times a week, and swimming four times a week.
Cigarettes and alcohol have been banned, while tea and coffee are a luxurious treat.
And for Mr Evans it is a case of all pain and no gain - because he will miss the Portuguese tournament as he will be on holiday! He said: "I would have loved to have gone but it was already booked.
"I played in a tournament in Hungary earlier this year. We lost, but I prefer to say we came second."
And Mr Evans will be bringing his footballing feats to Lancashire during the party conference season, when Conservative Party play a local media side.
He added: "Football doesn't come easy to me because I support Swansea and watching them has given me very few tips.
"I normally play on the right-wing but what with New Labour being created everyone seems to want to play on that side all of a sudden.
"I'll play on either flank.
"But there is an excellent team-spirit in the camp at the moment. People who normally shout across the floor to each other find themselves on the same team.
"It gives us a chance to get to know each other and it is even possible to like some members of the opposition."
