A SINGLE goal separated the teams in this dour encounter last night when the referee was busier than either goalkeeper.
The breakthrough came on 40 minutes when Barry White found himself in the penalty area with his back to goal. Unable to turn he laid the ball off to Tony Lawler who drilled it past defender and goalkeeper to give the Reds a deserved lead. In the second half Smith forced Medland into two great reflex saves. Tetley Walker were then camped in Colne's half, but never really created a chance.
However, the flashpoint of the match came in the 85th minute - a Tetley attack through the middle saw a goalmouth scramble ensue.
Tempers flared, punches were thrown and the referee had no choice but to send off Colne's Lee Murphy as well as goalkeeper Canning with a Tetley Walker forward also given his marching orders.
