POLICE were appalled when they saw the savagery and viciousness of an attack on a man near Burnley bus station.
A closed circuit security video shows the victim being attacked by three men who police say used his head like a football.
The 35-year-old victim, who has not been named, was fortunate to escape serious injury and received treatment for cuts and bruises.
The incident happened near the subway at the top end of Burnley bus station at about 2.30am on Sunday.
The first still shows the victim surrounded by three men, the one behind him about to push him to the ground.
The next shot shows the two men in white shirts kick him as he lies defenceless.
He receives more kicks to the head and upper body in the third view.
Amazingly he manages to stagger to his feet and even to start following the gang as they make off.
Although the attack lasted less than half a minute, the victim was kicked about a dozen times.
Video film of the cowardly attack is scheduled to be shown on Granada Crimefile on Wednesday.
DC Andy Bell said: "I am appalled by this horrendous attack. It is amazing that the aggrieved was not more seriously injured.''
A number of witnesses were in the area at the time but only one anonymous call has been received so far and information from that is being investigated.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Bell on 01282 425001.
Crimestoppers are offering a reward and are available on 0800 555111.
