MOST pubs in the area will be staying open for New Year's Eve according to chairman of the Lancaster Victuallers' Association Jack Lennon. The pub licensee's trade paper, The Publican, published a national survey which stated that most pubs will not be able to pay the wages of staff on the big night. But Mr Lennon commented: "I know that big chains like Yates' are talking about closing but the average tenant and licensee will find a way, I'm sure. The problem is going to be in big cities not places like Lancaster and Morecambe." That said, the wages and the booking prices for the night are very high. I've thought of little else for a long time and I know I'm not alone."
All pubs will be allowed a late license on the night.
