WEST Park started their warm-up to the new rugby union season with an internal sevens competition last Saturday and this week switch to 15-a-side with their traditional opener at Leigh. Park have gained several additions to their playing strength in the close season. Ian Worsley returning from Rotherham, Jason Smith from Orrell, Chris Pennington from Ruskin Park, Neil Slater from Lymm and Ross Bell from the Army. They are still however seeking to strengthen their side before the first league game on September 12 at Altrincham Kersal.
On the debit side Park have lost centre Carl Bibby to Liverpool St Helens, scrum half Ian Pearce to Orrell and prop Scott Goodfellow to Aldwinians. Nigel Heslop has also announced his retirement and Keith Hill will be an early season absentee due to a long-term injury.
