AFTER a series of near misses and narrow defeats Lynx finally managed to show good form and win this penultimate match of a tortuous season.
They fully deserved the 52-26 victory after surviving a mini comeback from the Bears.
The excellent Doc Murray started the ball rolling when he burst through a poor Oldham defence before giving the ball to stand off Neil Alexander to score under the posts.
Alexander stood out among some very good Lynx players, scoring four excellent tries into the bargain. Old gladiator Joe Walsh made the break next before giving the ball to another hat-trick hero Neil Parsley for him to score in the right corner.
The Lancashire side was 10-0 up in the first eight minutes.
Four minutes later Murray himself took a ball from his stand off on the halfway line and, stepping around three defenders, sprinted 50 yards to score under the posts. Paul Roberts, outstanding at full back, kicked the second of his eight goals to convert the try.
Oldham came back at Lynx and were rewarded with a try from scrum half Keith Brennan.
Lynx were in no mood for charity and scored from the kick off through Alexander.
Alexander got his hat-trick while Parsley got his second after good work from sub Steve Gee.
P J Solomon had a try disallowed for an off the ball incident with the score standing at 34-6 to Lynx.
Brennan and substitute Daniel Browne made a fight of it with well-worked tries for the Bears.
Gee scored after more great work from Alexander to put paid to any notice Oldham had of getting back into the game.
