THE Millennium Season will be extra-special for Leigh company St Joseph's Players . . . a Year of Golden Greats!
Year 2000 begins with the big annual pantomime 'Sleeping Beauty'. "It will be an out-of-this-world show," promised writer/director Doreen Johnson. "The panto is based on the traditional fairytale, but with the added exciting element of 'Star Wars'."
The April show will be a Music Hall - director June Lee celebrating a thousand years of entertainment. In May St Joseph's, in conjunction with the town's Centenary Celebrations, present 'Random Harvest', the poignant World War One story written by Leigh novelist James Hilton, born in Wilkinson Street 100 years ago.
A bold new venture comes in September with Shakespeare's wonderful comedy 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and season ends in more modern vein with the all-dancing, all-laughing 'Stepping Out'.
Meanwhile, rehearsals are in full swing for the company's Autumn Double Playbill. From September 21-24 look out for 'The Odd Couple', an adult comedy by acclaimed playwright Neil Simon. Then, in October, comes the poignant World War One drama 'Accrington Pals'.
Tickets (£3.50) for both plays are now on sale at Boardman's on Bradshawgate, Leigh. Playgoers can also pay at the door.
