THE closure of a farm which breeds cats for scientific experiments has put a great strain on RSPCA catteries.
The closure of Hillgrove Farm means that 800 cats have now gone into a system already struggling with the kitten season.
The cats will be transferred to RSPCA homes soon but with the cat population at an all time high, animal homes are struggling for space.
The RSPCA's Regional Manager Bernard Devine said: "Catteries are almost always full and we are appealing to the public to help. All the Hillgrove cats have been examined, vaccinated and microchipped and are currently in a holding facility waiting to be neutered. We need caring homes with loving families."
