STAN Ternent has already felt the benefit of his summer squad strengthening.

A clean bill of health would leave the Clarets with an embarrassment of riches.

But since the season started, Steve Davis, Andy Cooke, Chris Brass, Mark Robertson and John Mullin have all been added to Peter Swan's name on the injured list.

"We haven't got into the situation yet where we've had any suspensions or anything like that.

"But all of a sudden you get three or four injuries, Alan Lee and Robbo are going away after the Stoke game so we lose them for two matches and all of a sudden you're looking at it and thinking we're a bit thin on the ground here," Ternent admitted.

And the Burnley boss was disappointed that three players - Brass, Gordon Armstrong and Graham Branch - were booked in the low-key cup defeat by Manchester City.

"You can get booked for looking the wrong way now and those are always a concern, but I haven't any control over that with the referee," he added.

However, the good news is that no Burnley player had received more than one yellow card this term before today's visit of Stoke City.

ALAN LEE is backing Stephen Grant to force his way back into the Republic of Ireland Under-21s set-up.

The Clarets duo have been team-mates at international level before. And Lee, who links up with the Irish squad tonight ahead of a three-game spell inside the next 10 days, believes Grant won't have to wait too long for a recall.

"Stephen's a very good player and I don't think people appreciate that so much because he hasn't been in the spotlight," said Burnley's summer signing from Aston Villa.

BURNLEY'S second Pontins League Premier Division game of the season against Manchester City next Tuesday night will be played at Hyde United's ground at Miles Street, Hyde.

YOUNG midfielder Paul Graham, released by the Clarets in the summer, has signed for UniBond League First Division side Chorley.

EX-BURNLEY favourite Leighton James is back in management. The former Accrington Stanley boss is now in charge of League of Wales side Llanelli, who started their season last week with a win.

THE Clarets are holding their annual golf day at Burnley Golf Club on Tuesday, September 7.

The cost of entry per team of three, who will play alongside a celebrity, is £175 which includes dinner in the North Stand hospitality suite at Turf Moor in the evening.

THE derby game at Preston on Saturday, September 11 is all-ticket for Burnley fans.

Season-ticket holders have priority on tickets until next Saturday with voucher D required.
